Body Cleansing

Our body has a wonderful self-cleaning mechanism. The toxins that abound in the air we breathe, water we drink and the food we take find a way into our blood stream. The harmful bacteria, viruses and various chemical substances are in our blood and our body constantly works to eliminate these unwanted substances from our system.

The liver the size of a football is the main organ which helps in this process of elimination. The environmental pollutants like pesticides, drugs, household and industrial chemicals along with bacteria and viruses are removed from the blood in the liver. The liver produces bile, which does the job of digesting fats. Through our liver constantly blood passes through and it is estimated that in a minute 2 quarts of blood is processed and toxins and wastes removed.

Our lungs when we breathe take the much-needed oxygen, which every cell of ours needs. When we breathe out, carbon dioxide and volatile gases get out of our system. Also the lungs produce mucus, which does the job of trapping toxins and impurities which could then be coughed out.
The two kidneys, each the size of a fist process about 200 quarts of blood and eliminate about 2 quarts of wastes and excess water as urine.

The sweat glands in our skin, the largest organ in our body, help eliminate urea and ammonia when we perspire. There are a number of sweat glands in the skin all over our body.

The small and the large intestines are in the job of elimination. The food we take when it enters the small intestine is processed and all the necessary nutrients are absorbed there. When the food gets Inside, the colon (the large intestine) removes the water and minerals to be used by our system and eliminates the waste, which exits as feces.

The above processes of elimination go on in our body to get rid of all unwanted substances, which our body does not require. When viruses, bad bacteria, pollutants and toxins do not get out of our system they cause illnesses and diseases in our body.

We have trillions of cells in our body and every cell of ours is engaged in the process of elimination of toxins as well. How do they do it? They have a protective membrane, which prevents toxic formation. They simply don’t allow destructive toxins to get their root in our basic structure. Our entire body is made of these trillions of cells. Cells do have this barrier against intruders and as such our body is equipped to deal with this toxic removal right at the cellular level.

Our white blood cells, which are called ‘macrophages’, are constantly on the watch for the bad elements entering our body and act as the protective force guarding our body at the entry level. They are our defense force. They fight the intruders with vehement force and try to kill them and put them out of our body.

As we have seen above our body works as a fine detoxifying machine and works almost 24/7. But the cells and other organs like liver, kidneys, skin etc. need good nutrients to enable them to do a good job. When they are unable to do what they are equipped to do due to lack of nourishment and an excess of toxins, wastes and harmful bacteria and viruses taking control of the body, sickness enters in various forms like cancer, inflammation etc.

No one in this world can say they are totally healthy. Everyone will have toxins build up in their bodies.

The first thing we have to do is to see that our body gets cleansed. Our digestive system from the beginning to the end is known as GI tract (gastrointestinal tract).

Due to our eating habits, we accumulate quite a lot of toxins in our body, which are harmful to our health. These toxins include mercury, lead, aluminum and the like, which get into our body due to our food intake, air we breathe and the water we drink. These toxins are harmful to our body and one of the main causes of many of our diseases, heart-disease, diabetes, arthritis, Alzheimer and a host of other illnesses.

The first step to stabilize our health is to see that these toxins are eliminated on a regular basis. While there is the need for toxin elimination, we should also be aware that our body is superbly formed to naturally eliminate wastes. So, do not jump into any commercial detox plan to eliminate body toxins. By following and adhering to some simple steps as detailed below, we can detox our body regularly.

The first thing to do is to take a lot of water. A very helpful way to do this is to consume as much as 2 to 3 large cups of water in an empty stomach in the morning. It is also advisable to squeeze in half lime or lemon in one of the cups. During the day, it is a good practice to drink as much water as possible in between meals. It is a good idea not to drink any water just before or after a meal. It is suggested 2 to 4 liters of water per day is what we have to aim. .

You will find your body in good shape, if you can miss one meal (either lunch or dinner) as a regular weekly program. This will allow our body time to repair itself and to work a lot better in our digestive system.

Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables will keep our body in good health. Three different fruits (eg. Apples, pears, oranges, bananas, grape fruit, different grapes, melons, mangoes etc.) and 5 different vegetables (eg, salad greens, lettuce, cucumber, celery, tomato, red, green, yellow or orange peppers, onions, grated garlic, ginger etc.) per day is the recommended one.

One serving of fresh fruit/vegetable juice per day will do a lot of good in keeping our body clean. Orange juice bought from super market is not the solution. We have to make our fresh juice at home or take it from fresh juice stalls in the malls or outlets. We have to make sure that they are prepared paying lot of attention to hygiene.

Everyday we have to take a dish of raw vegetables, greens, celery, tomato, cucumber, green (as well as red, yellow) peppers with added two or 3 fresh herbs like rosemary, basil, mint. A dash of extra virgin olive oil, apple cider or wine vinegar and half a lime or lemon juice will be the best salad dressing. Do not use commercial salad dressings. When cooking vegetables, a good method is to quick steam some vegetables (not more than 5 minutes) and eat them with pepper, dash of sea salt and some extra virgin olive oil or extra virgin coconut oil.

The above regimen would sure keep our body clean and build up a good immune system.
